Master Bathroom Sinks: Double Trouble

It seems almost a given in our day and age that EVERY single master bathroom has 2 sinks in the vanity, doesn’t it?

Double Sinks

Something like this lovely, perfectly balanced ensemble. So serene. So symmetrical. Such a myth, really! All we need to complete this picture of perfection is Mr and Mrs Cleaver in their slippers and bathrobes, standing side by side, lovingly gazing at each other as they brush their teeth and wash their faces in the morning in perfect synchronization.

But the truth is, nobody really lives like that. And I’m certainly ALL FOR having two sinks in a master bath, if they function at the right level. For instance, 2 separate vanities all together, with at least 24” of open counter space on each side of the sink. Because here’s the honest truth: people need counter space MORE than they need multiple sinks (and storage space, let’s not forget that). Both of these are WAY more important than two sinks. Wouldn’t you agree?

Double Sinks

Think about how we use a bathroom sink. There is really only 3 short tasks: wash face, wash hands, brush teeth. And maybe shaving, if you’re a man and prefer a good old fashioned razor. So, WHY do we plan the entire bathroom in duplicity for the three least time consuming tasks? AND, think about how much time we spend doing other things–hair, makeup, and other ‘non-sink’ grooming habits. I’m not sure about you, but the last time I stood robed and slippered next to my Mr. Cleaver in the morning was NEVER!

This sleek, modern set up is a great example of enough storage space, and counter space. The parallel balance is pleasing, while the asymmetrical balance of the wall storage is practical and interesting.
